Stefani Melendez

Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHC, CTMH,CAGCS
Starting therapy for the first time can be an overwhelming experience, and it’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions. My priority is to create a safe and welcoming space where you feel both comfortable and understood. Together, we’ll focus on your unique strengths and explore how you can harness them to navigate challenges and find solutions that resonate with you. We’ll work on building your resilience by developing a toolbox of coping skills that you can rely on during tough moments. In addition to a strengths-based approach, I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, which can help you identify and modify thoughts and behaviors that may be holding you back. Our sessions will be tailored to your specific goals, incorporating elements like problem-solving, stress management, relaxation techniques, and even role-playing exercises to enhance your assertiveness/communication skills. I have experience working with adults aged 18-65 on a variety of issues, including grief, racial trauma, self-esteem, anxiety, career counseling, life transitions, relationship challenges, college and graduate school concerns, communication difficulties, and women’s issues. If you're feeling unsure about how to start, anxious about past experiences, or worried about being judged, I encourage you to reach out. You can click the Headway booking link located in my contact info on my profile to schedule your first appointment. I’m here to support you on this journey, every step of the way!

Clifton, New Jersey therapist: Dr. Mike Abrams, psychologist
Serving Women

Dr. Mike Abrams

Psychologist, PhD, MBA, ABPP
I limit my practice to a few clients with whom I can offer meaningful help. I do not think it is ethical for a psychologist to agree to work with someone who has a problem outside of their expertise or someone who has barriers that the psychologist suspects they cannot overcome. When I conclude that I can help someone, I collaborate with them while applying the most appropriate methods for their problems. I choose these methods from among the many I have studied or developed. This is sometimes called a Transdiagnostic Integrative technique. Here, a clinical label or diagnosis is less important than the unique collection of symptoms a person is living with. I also make sure that I come to understand the client's point of view, how their adversities, their personal philosophy, and their level of suffering combine to lead to their anxiety, depressed mood, or even anger. When the client agrees, I prefer to use psychological testing to be sure my assessment of the client's situation is supported by the best available science. When I conduct psychotherapy, I know it can only be effective when I view the client as presenting many intricate problems that must be fully understood, so each client's issues are approached as scientific hypotheses that guide therapy, which guide my specific interventions, but is always open to revision as new life history information or psychological data becomes available. Since I have trained numerous therapists and continue researching and publishing in the field, my clients are assured they receiving the most effective evidence-based interventions. If you do see me, you can be confident that you will be unconditionally accepted in a safe and comfortable therapeutic relationship with every effort being made to help you.

Manhattan, New York therapist: Tala Abu Rahma, counselor/therapist
Serving Women

Tala Abu Rahma

Counselor/Therapist, LMSW
As an Arab-American therapist of color, I understand the value of working with a therapist who understands different cultural backgrounds, and believes that political and social structures create and worsen depression and anxiety symptoms. I will help you grow through empowerment, self-exploration, and building on your inner strengths. We may also explore your core beliefs about yourself and identify how these narratives are playing out in your life. Our work will help you develop and maintain healthy relationships, develop positive coping strategies, shift thinking and behaviors, or come into a confident self. We will work collaboratively to develop a treatment plan and I will meet you where you are with empathy and acceptance. My approach is an integration of psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral modalities, which means I will explore the way you experienced the world from birth until present to identify habits and behaviors that have become roadblocks to living in alignment with the person you want to be.

Licensed Psychoanalyst, Licensed Psychoanalyst, New York State
Often times, people find that they experience unhappiness, anxiety, or repeated obstacles to getting what they want. This can lead to problems with relationships, work, or other areas of our lives. Through a cooperative, supportive relationship with the right therapist, you can learn how to cope with what the "universe" throws your way, and which of your own behaviors and conflicts are contributing to your unhappiness. By talking with someone you trust and feel comfortable with, I believe anyone can learn to know themselves better and to live more consciously and deliberately.
