I was trained in Feminist Therapy and aim to use a feminist and multicultural lens in all of the work that I do, including in helping clients understand how they have internalized toxic societal messages. I encourage these clients to keep challenging these ideas and seek media and community with more body positive messaging. I also work with these clients to increase their overall sense of self-compassion and self-acceptance.

When you look in the mirror how do you feel? When you see your body, how do you feel about it? Sometimes the answers to the questions go beyond thoughts and negatively impact our mood. We may find ourselves isolating from others or negatively attacking ourselves. Therapy can be a safe and non-judgmental place for you. Working with me on body image will focus on exactly what you want to focus on. If you feel stuck and a bit unsure on what you would like to work on or where to start. That’s okay. I will do my best to walk with you every step of the way. Common clients that seek support for body image: - You feel that you obsessively look in the mirror or try to avoid mirrors. You find yourself having negative or self-defeating thoughts. - Disparaging thoughts or comments about your body. You may find yourself having secret bad, disparaging thoughts about yourself. The thoughts often lead to feeling down and avoiding others. - You experience envy of others. - You feel insecure in yourself. - Low self-esteem and self-confidence. - You engage in comparisons. This often takes place when looking through social media or seeing someone else and feeling a sense of envy or comparison take place. There is no perfect approach to counseling. I share this because I think it’s important to know that we can start anywhere that you would like. We do not have to rush through sessions, and you do not have to sit for an hour talking with me. We can be creative and make therapy what fits you. For some, this means that we use art. For others, we sit in silence or play a game. Today, give yourself the gift of opportunity. Call me, let’s talk on the phone and see if we are a good fit.

Struggling with body image can impact your self-esteem and well-being. I work with clients to explore the underlying beliefs that contribute to negative body image and help them develop a healthier relationship with their body. Using evidence-based therapies like CBT and ACT, we’ll focus on self-acceptance, reducing harmful comparisons, and building confidence in who you are beyond physical appearance.
