Weight Loss

Prudence Leung

Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Psychotherapist (RP), MA in Counselling Psychology
I have experience working with young adults who have experienced difficulty with their body image and weight. Issues could include, but are not limited to, navigating through unexpected weight gain; struggling with body image/appearance; and relationship with food. Although I have more of a holistic therapeutic approach with working with various issues, my approach when working with clients who have experienced issues with their body image and weight tends to lean towards a combination of an acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), and person-centred therapy approach. A positive therapeutic relationship with each client is crucial, in my opinion, and this is what I aim to develop with all of my clients in order to help them identify and understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This is an important step before we can begin the process of working together to create long-lasting change. Therapy is a collaborative process. This may be the very first time that you are considering therapy, or you have may tried therapy in your past, but either way, I am here to work with you on your goals in a non-judgemental environment. This will allow for you to explore various barriers that may be preventing you from regaining control of your life. If you would like to set up an initial free 15-minute consultation with me, please feel free to contact me.

Weight gain can affect our sense of self and how we feel about ourselves. It's important to visit your doctor to rule out any medical reason; it also can involve developing a healthy lifestyle that supports your goals; as I am writing I realize it is not always so simple; can involve past losses, trauma, depression.

Laura Farberman

Registered Social Worker, RSW, MSW
As we build our capacity for self compassion, we become more in tune with what will be nourishing for our bodies. In therapy we focus on what has happened to us that made us disconnect from our bodies in this way. We explore what eating foods that cause unhealthy weight gain do for us; do we eat for comfort, for relief, for relaxation, disconnection and so on. Which part of us enjoys feeling full, eating to ease emotions and so on. Working with me to support your weight issues will provide you with tools to support yourself through emotional eating patterns that have been difficult to change.

Philip Starkman

Registered Psychotherapist, MSW, RSW
In my practice, I offer a compassionate and holistic approach to clients seeking support with weight loss, understanding that the journey to achieving a healthy weight is as much about the mind as it is about the body. Integrating strategies such as Mindfulness, the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Role-Playing, I help clients address the emotional and psychological aspects of eating and weight. Mindfulness practices foster an awareness of hunger, fullness cues and eating habits. EFT helps in managing cravings and emotional eating, while IFS allows clients to explore and heal parts of themselves that may be resisting change. CBT is utilized to challenge and modify unhelpful thoughts and behaviors related to food and body image. Role-Playing can prepare clients for challenging situations around food and eating. My role is to support you in uncovering and overcoming the underlying factors contributing to weight challenges, providing a safe space to explore, learn, and adopt new strategies for a healthier and more balanced life. Together, we work towards not just weight loss, but a deeper sense of well-being and self-acceptance.
