Dr. Kim Edwards
Psychologist, C.Psych.
Do you or a family member have challenges with focus, distractibility, time management, procrastination, restlessness and/or forgetfulness? Have you struggled with chronic unexplained underachievement?
People with ADHD tend to be extremely bright individuals who are frequently misunderstood. They are often told they are not living up to their potential and described as “lazy” and “unmotivated.” Overtime, individuals with ADHD can internalize this negative feedback and feel ineffective, unproductive, ashamed, guilty, anxious, overwhelmed, and frustrated. Tasks that seem simple and require minimal effort to others (e.g., responding to emails) can feel like climbing a mountain to individuals with ADHD.
If not properly addressed, ADHD can wreak havoc on lives. However, it can also become a superpower if appropriately managed.
At MindFit, we offer the Fit and Focused assessment to help determine whether one’s challenges can be explained by ADHD. We focus on identifying and fostering strengths and understanding what’s getting in the way of their development. Getting an accurate assessment is the first step toward receiving effective management of the condition and bringing out the best in you. We also offer a 10-session Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy based program called “Thrive with ADHD” designed to teach youth and adults with ADHD about effective strategies (e.g., for organization, time management, reducing procrastination, etc.), ADHD coaching, support for parents and partners of children/adults with ADHD, and a physical activity program for individuals with ADHD based on research indicating that physical activity interventions can reduce ADHD symptom severity, improve mood and enhance focus.

Daniel Klassen
Psychologist, Provisional, (P7619) with CAP in Alberta & Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC 19147) with BCACC, for elsewhere in Canada
Daniel, a 59-year-old ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) with combined-type ADHD, brings a lifetime of firsthand experience and professional insight into developmental disorders, including ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and personality disorders, many of which intersect with trauma—a connection he understands deeply from his own family history. ADHD has presented him with a complex mix of advantages and challenges that have shaped his character and career.
As a child, Daniel faced severe hyperactivity, chronic inattentiveness, and developmental delays that made his maturity level noticeably behind his peers. These challenges impacted his academic and social life significantly. He spent many of his school years in the “Learning Resource Room” with other students who struggled academically, a placement that reminded him daily of his differences. Socially, he found it difficult to keep up with the expectations of his age group, often feeling out of sync with those around him. Yet, growing up on a farm provided him with unique opportunities that helped him manage his ADHD’s more difficult symptoms. With the freedom to explore vast open spaces, he was able to expend his energy in healthy, constructive ways, and he developed a variety of creative outlets, which allowed him to express himself and channel his high energy.
Despite these outlets, his academic journey was far from easy. He grappled with setbacks and failures, struggling to maintain focus in conventional learning environments. But amidst the difficulties, Daniel exhibited remarkable creativity, frequently approaching problems from unique perspectives that others overlooked. He also demonstrated an unusual capacity for attention to detail, albeit intermittently, which revealed itself in moments when he was deeply engaged with a topic. Additionally, his emotional intuition grew as he navigated the social challenges of ADHD, making him attuned to the feelings and needs of others—a quality that would later become central to his work.
As he matured, Daniel found ways to blend his natural abilities with discipline and perseverance, eventually transforming his academic record. He not only completed his master’s degree but did so with nearly a perfect GPA, an accomplishment that underscored his intellectual capabilities and resilience. This academic success marked a turning point, allowing him to merge his creativity, attention to detail, and empathy into a thriving career.
Now, as a clinician, Daniel continues to face the challenges of living with ADHD, a condition that remains part of his daily life. Yet he has learned to harness its strengths, such as quick thinking, creativity, and empathy, which have become integral to his character. His personal and professional experiences have fostered a deep understanding of the complexities of developmental and personality disorders, equipping him to help others with similar struggles. In many ways, Daniel has transformed the mixed blessings of ADHD into a source of strength, enabling him to become a person of profound capability, insight, and resilience.
