Perceptions of one’s physical self is a very personal and individual experience. Sometimes we focus so intently on the image we see when we look in the mirror that we can forget all of the positive qualities we possess. We can start to devalue ourselves and place all of our worth on our physical appearance. When working with clients who are struggling with body image, I will ask them to focus on other qualities, abilities and strengths they possess separate from their physical self. Starting to see ourselves in a more balanced way can increase positive self-image. We will also try to determine where the negative thoughts and messages come from and use CBT to reframe those thoughts in a more self-accepting light. Please book a free consultation if this sounds like it may be helpful for you.
How you perceive and feel about yourself is a key indicator of how happy and emotionally stable you are. While I do not offer therapy related to body image, we do have several therapists at our clinic, Psychotherapy Collective, who offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if they are a good fit for your journey.
