I offer diagnostic assessment and evidence-based psychological treatment for bipolar spectrum disorders and frequently co-occurring conditions (PTSD, insomnia, BPD, psychosis, OCD, and others). The primary treatment approach I use is CBT for bipolar disorder, and I often incorporate elements of virtual dark therapy and interpersonal and social rhythm therapy.
I use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy as a primary treatment method for bipolar disorder. People who experience bipolar disorder experience highs and lows. I will work with you to determine your greatest difficulties during both your manic and your depressive phases. Together, we will design a plan for therapy aimed at helping you achieve the greatest symptom reduction and learn ways of managing symptoms moving forward.
Reaching out for help when we are struggling takes courage. Understanding what a Bipolar diagnosis is and how to minimize its effect on your life can be a game changer and have a dramatic positive impact on your life. I am the founder of Environmental Stress-Targeted Therapy EVSTT, the very first psychotherapeutic treatment protocol developed for patients with BD to include clinical hypnosis and hypnotherapy, and target the stress response connected with manic, hypomanic, and depressive episodes. I do not prescribe medication but I do work with individuals with bipolar in coming to terms with the disorder and self-acceptance in integrating it into one's identity without self-stigma or shame. I also work to help the individual learn how to better balance their life, learn about their prodromal symptoms, develop safety plans, address loss issues, address relationship related issues, and learn to be kind to themselves.
The types of psychotherapy used to treat bipolar disorder include:
Behavioral therapy. This focuses on behaviors that decrease stress.
Cognitive therapy. This type of approach involves learning to identify and modify the patterns of thinking that accompany mood shifts.
Interpersonal therapy.. and more.
