Anxiety and fears are a natural part of life. When these tendencies become so extreme to the point of paralyzing someone's ability to participate in a safe and secure situation due to the negative feelings associated, it may be time for the person experiencing these symptoms to seek additional help, support, and / or advisement. Assistance is available! Living with anxiety and fear without a rationale or just cause (rational concern vs. perceived threat and danger not based on an accurate assessment or analysis) is not healthy for the person experiencing these states nor the people around them and can lead to a number of potentially preventable problems for everyone involved. Individuals who feel threatened without a due cause often are suffering from and affected by a number of states of "(di)stress", "dis-ease", and/or "dis-order" based on conditions going on in their lives. Help and support is available. Individuals engaging in conduct leading to these sorts of issues will also typically require professional treatment. When these individuals refuse to receive the tx they do need, they can present as a danger to themselves and to others. I have both professional and personal experience dealing with these matters especially at this point in my life. Research-based strategies can be employed to help desensitize victims paralyzed by distress, anxiety and fear as well as used to help victims cope directly with the perpetrators, while simultaneously mitigating the effects of those engaging in the abusive conduct until a resolution is reached or can otherwise be employed. Often this behavior, while invisible to some, has been brought about by individuals who have failed to receive the help and support they need, choosing instead to divert, deflect, and take responsibility, thus perpetuating these cycles of toxic energy and abuse which do not serve anyone or do anyone any good "communicable/ contagious states of "dis-ease" in other words. Learn to inoculate and immunize. Denial is a very natural, yet potentially dangerous stage to any healing pathway. Working with those coping with their own shame, guilt, and other negative feelings/ embarrassment, as well as fears for taking responsibility can also be a part of therapy sessions. Learn to heal (your healing is not contingent upon anyone doing anything differently except you). When you change, the people around you have an opportunity to change. Likewise, ways to overcome those feelings of "dis-ease" brought about by a lack of respect for personal boundaries, unhealthy work and / or personal environments. The ways people treat one another can be targeted during therapy sessions so healthier relationships and forms of communication can be cultivated. Teaching desensitization and tolerance can be helpful, however it is also important to teach individuals they have a right to say no and leave any situation which does not feel comfortable or safe for them. Learning about boundaries, how to protect your own boundaries, as well as how to help ensure others are afforded and treated with the same levels of dignity, care, and respect you would wish for in your own life is a part of any psycho-educational programming grounded in truth. Teaching respect for boundaries can be taught during sessions. Not everyone has had training to understand not only the effects boundary awareness or lack thereof can have on individuals subjected to the effects of their lack of awareness and knowledge, but they may not be fully aware of the legal aspects either. Teaching character development skills as well as prosocial behaviors is a very intelligent idea for so many important reasons. "Free will" does not mean immunity from consequences of the free will choices others may choose to make. Learn to leave anxiety and fears behind you.
