I have extensive experience supporting parents, expecting parents, and grieving parents during this unique period of life. I have advanced training in the treatment of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders through Postpartum Support International and completed subspecialty training in Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health at University of Denver while earning my Master's and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology. Additionally, I wrote a doctoral research paper on the body image concerns that often arise during the perinatal period. I have worked and trained in a number of community clinics and academic medical hospitals in OB/GYN, NICU, and integrated care settings. I have felt honored to support individuals and families on their journeys at MotherWise Colorado, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Children's Hospital Colorado and now in private practice.

Postpartum depression is a very real disorder which can wreck lives and even lead to suicide or homicide. It will occur after 30 days, possibly months after birthing our children, and can swallow us up. It is not like the lesser depression and anxiety that normally follows birth but is short lived; and it requires counseling, and even at times-medication to recover.

Fourth Trimester is an often forgotten part of pregnancy. Many people find themselves lost and sometimes detached from the experience they had assumed they would have. This can be very scary, depressing, and a source of shame in the face of others' joy and expectations of you. Therapy can be a safe and validating place to feel and process your actual experience and to help you re-initiate bonding with your child and find compassion and healing for yourself.

Are you wondering why you feel down and unmotivated to do anything instead of enjoying these precious moments with your little bundle of joy? While many birthing parents experience what's called the "baby blues," you may be experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression if you find yourself feeling depressed for over two weeks beyond childbirth. Many parents feel extremely alone in their sadness, believing that they are the only ones who experience this. However, postpartum depression (along with other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders) is fairly common. The months following an infant's birth can be especially hard for mothers. In addition to the fluctuating hormones, many find that they don't have the support that they need. In my work with new parents, I assess for postpartum depression, anxiety, and childbirth trauma. I tailor treatment to your unique difficulties and therapy needs, incorporating research-supported therapy treatments. I also provide information on community resources, and am happy to collaborate with support persons you've identified, with your permission. I've taken Postpartum Support International's certification training in Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders, as well as their advanced psychotherapy training. I'm also currently serving as Co-Chair of PSI-FL's Board.
