All problems with Anxiety & Fear (which may include phobias & Obsessive Compulsive disorder) are linked to an inappropriate activation of the centers in the brain that are responsible for detecting danger. Launi Treece
Psychologist, PhD
We can start with CBT to determine the thoughts which lead and prolong the anxiety and learn how to change those to more realistic thoughts. I teach relaxation skills such as breathing and meditation. I like to hear the history of anxiety in their lifespan so we can do deeper work to determine the source of the anxiety and perhaps do EMDR or LI. I can discuss medication options as well.

Max Tsymbalau MS, LMHC | Seattle Anxiety and Trauma Therapist
Counselor/Therapist, LMHC
If you are prone to feel overwhelmed by fear, anxiety, or panic, it is often largely due to parts of you being stuck in past experiences where you felt fear or terror. Oftentimes, your overwhelm is due to you feeling powerless in the presence of your anxiety. I will work to help you explore your relevant past history, as it relates to your feelings of fear, and I will also help you build inner strength to hold your own in the presence of inner anxiety or panic.

Jeanne Kimble
Licensed Professional Counselor, LMHC
Most therapeutic issues originate with a threat that elicits the emotion of fear. Fear will almost always want to introduce you to its cousin, anxiety. Anxiety is a worry about the future and some folks' brains befriend it because it can feel like they're actually doing something about the fear when they allow anxious thoughts. Some of us really buy in and get addicted to anxiety, then we might have a disorder on our hands. Anxiety disorder can also lead into depression. Some try to get rid of anxiety by channeling it into hypervigilence, doubt, overthinking, perfectionism, "control issues", people pleasing or avoidance. You know where that goes.
Chronic severe anxiety can be toxic and hard on the brain and the body. But I hold chronic forms of moderate anxiety responsible for fatigue and poor performance, for keeping folks on the sidelines of life and obstructing a whole lot of dreams from being realized. The trouble is that 1. the manifestation of anxiety is quite normalized in our culture and 2. some folks have been living with it for so long it feels like part of who they are. So, the first line of order in therapy is to increase our awareness of its presence, to identify it clearly. Healing trauma from the past can effectively reduce a lot of anxiety in your life. I also use Judson Brewer's process for "unwinding anxiety" when clients have habituated to the experience of anxiety.
