Therapy for Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) offers specialized care for individuals grappling with the complexities of NPD, a condition characterized by patterns of grandiosity, a need for admiration, and a lack of empathy for others. NPD therapy aims to address the deep-seated emotional and psychological issues that underpin these behaviors, fostering healthier interpersonal relationships and a more constructive self-image. Recognizing the challenges in treating NPD, our approach is grounded in compassion, understanding, and a commitment to facilitating change. Tailored Therapeutic Approach for NPD * Empathetic and Nonjudgmental Environment: We prioritize creating a secure therapeutic space where individuals feel safe to explore their feelings, behaviors, and the roots of their narcissistic tendencies without judgment. * Insight-Oriented Therapy: We guide clients toward developing insight into their own behaviors and the impacts on themselves and others, promoting the acknowledgement of and accountability for their actions. * Emotion Regulation: Therapy focuses on enhancing emotional regulation skills to manage the vulnerabilities and sensitivities often underlying narcissistic behaviors. * Interpersonal Effectiveness: We work to improve interpersonal skills, fostering empathy, and enhancing the capacity for meaningful and reciprocal relationships. * Self-Esteem Building: A key component of therapy is addressing underlying issues of self-esteem and validation, helping clients build a healthier and more stable sense of self-worth that is not dependent on external validation. Goals of NPD Therapy Our NPD therapy services strive to: * Enhance Self-Insight: Facilitate a deeper understanding of oneself, fostering acknowledgment of narcissistic patterns and their effects. * Improve Empathy: Develop a greater capacity for empathy and understanding of others’ perspectives and feelings. * Foster Healthier Relationships: Support the building of healthier and more mutually satisfying relationships. * Promote Emotional Growth: Encourage emotional resilience and flexibility, moving away from fragile self-esteem and towards a more grounded self-concept. * Support Behavioral Change: Guide individuals in recognizing harmful behaviors and implementing strategies for change, aiming for more adaptive and less harmful interpersonal interactions. NPD therapy is a challenging but profoundly rewarding journey toward self-improvement and betterment of one's relationships. Recognizing the courage it takes to seek help for NPD, we are dedicated to providing specialized, empathetic care for individuals ready to embark on this path of change. If you aren't reaching your goals, feel unfulfilled, or struggle to keep close relationships, there is a path forward towards a more fulfilling life. Don't gamble when choosing a therapist. You deserve a psychologist who will adapt the best science to your specific needs and goals. Many therapists themselves are burned out and can't give the best care to their clients. Dr Syzdek built a small boutique practice where he limits the number of clients he treats, so he can give his clients the time, thought, and dedication that they deserve. Dr Syzdek combines compassion with the science of behavior change to help you make the the difficult decisions in life and take action, so you can live a happier life, thrive at work, love your relationships, and have fun again. Dr Syzdek treats relationship and interpersonal issues typically using Functional Analytic Psychotherapy and/or Assertiveness Training. These approaches combine new insights with new skills so you can be more effective in your relationships and re-build damaged relationships.

Sewickley Heights, Pennsylvania therapist: Brad Croyle, licensed professional counselor
Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Brad Croyle

Licensed Professional Counselor, MA. LPC
I work with clients who struggle with Narcissistic Personality Disorder and related issues and other similar personality disorders. During our sessions, we will collaborate to create a plan for addressing them that helps you resolve such issues in a meaningful manner to restore functioning enabling and empowering you to move beyond your past. I practice from a Holistic perspective and commonly employ EMDR and other effective modalities with helping clients achieve balance and purpose in their lives and creative solutions to their problems. This includes exploring past issues and trauma that may be a factor presently with Personality Disorders. Personality disorders tend to be persistent and do not simply go away on their own. They commonly are from past abuse, trauma and poor attachments stemming from childhood. This will take much work to explore past dynamics and resolve past traumas. Talk therapy alone is not effective. Otherwise, anyone could simply say to just change who you are and that would happen, but that does not. Our goal is to make lasting and desired changes to promote healthy relationships and positive interactions. Change is possible.
