Helping people connect and find support since 2006.
START YOUR RECOVERY STORY TODAY.
Choose a treatment center that fits your personal wellness goals. Addiction recovery is a personal growth journey and choosing a treatment center that works for you can depend on various factors including — time, expense and the level of support needed for a successful long-lasting recovery.
Because addiction is often accompanied by substance abuse, mental illness, and other behavioral challenges, treatment centers typically provide both psychiatric and chemical dependency services to patients across a variety of settings such as — inpatient psychiatric hospitals, specialty treatment facilities, residential treatment centers as well as outpatient clinics and community-based education programs.
Depending on your individual circumstances, you may choose between residential, outpatient, or a combination approach. Residential programs provide immersive support, as well as a break from daily life. For many, 24-hour intervention is needed to set them on the right path toward recovery. Others may have circumstances that require an outpatient rehab program allowing them the flexibility to live at home during recovery. Choosing the right program can be a critical component of a lasting recovery. Get started today, contact a treatment center for an assessment and learn about your recovery options.
LEVELS OF CARE
Treatment centers offer different levels of care. Based on a thorough assessment, your treatment center will create an individualized plan that maximizes your recovery opportunities. For example, treatment may start with round-the-clock care in an inpatient or residential environment and progress through a series of step-down levels of care with the goal of transitioning to outpatient support services. It is important however, to fully understand that all recovery efforts will require your commitment and participation to ensure success in the long-term.
Everyone is unique, and so is their path to recovery. Start your recovery story, search the TherapyTribe treatment center directory and choose from world-class rehab centers by state. Our goal is to help you find a recovery program that fits your mental health needs and long-term wellness goals.
TYPES OF TREATMENT CENTER SERVICES
Inpatient Programs:
Inpatient rehab provides a comprehensive and immersive recovery approach, often most effective for those dealing with severe addiction or behavioral issues. The variety of inpatient services allows patients to select a program that best fits their individual recovery needs, preferences, and budget. Services include:
- Detoxification Services: Many facilities offer medically monitored detox to help individuals struggling with substance use manage withdrawal symptoms and cleanse their bodies of alcohol or drugs. This step often precedes full engagement in treatment.
- Intensive Inpatient Services: Some treatment centers provide short-term intensive services to stabilize individuals experiencing acute symptoms from a mental or behavioral health disorder or recent traumatic event.
- Residential Treatment: Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs), sometimes referred to as rehab, are live-in healthcare facilities providing therapy for substance abuse, mental illness, or other behavioral problems. RTC accommodations range from luxury to modest, but all patients receive round-the-clock care and therapeutic interventions in a supportive environment. RTCs often offer complementary wellness activities such as yoga, acupuncture, job assistance, parenting classes, nutritional support, medication management, exercise opportunities, and inspirational speaker series.
Outpatient Programs:
Outpatient rehabs offer effective treatment options while allowing patients to live at home during recovery. This arrangement is crucial for those required to work or care for their families while attending treatment sessions. Outpatient programs can be significantly less expensive as they do not involve room and board costs. However, they’re typically recommended for individuals with milder forms of addiction who can maintain a disciplined recovery approach. Services include:
- Partial Hospitalization: Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs), also known as day hospitals, offer structured daytime care. Patients participate in a daily routine, including meals and other activities, but return home or to an alternative residence each night. Group therapy is often the main treatment method, although some PHPs also offer individual and family therapy.
- Intensive Outpatient: Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) allow patients to visit a treatment center several days a week for a few hours at a time. IOPs have a set schedule with structured therapy sessions and usually last about 90 days, including drug testing. They are often the next step down after rehab or a PHP.
- Traditional Outpatient Services: These services include individual, group, and family therapy sessions scheduled per patient as needed. This flexible level of care provides therapeutic support for individuals transitioning out of treatment and readjusting to daily life. Regular therapy can be the difference between relapse and long-term recovery as it helps patients manage negative behavior and create accountability.
If you’re considering rehab, it’s important to understand the extensive support that many treatment centers provide even after you’ve completed your program. Aftercare, including alumni programs, ongoing counseling, or 12-step meetings, is critical in helping you maintain your progress in the long term. You should also feel confident in the qualifications and expertise of the staff at these centers, knowing that they’re equipped to provide the best care possible. Understanding the treatment philosophy or approach is equally important, as finding a center that aligns with your personal beliefs and preferences can make a world of difference in your recovery journey.
Many centers offer specialized programs designed for specific groups, such as veterans, LGBTQ+ individuals, adolescents, or those diagnosed with both a mental health condition and a substance use disorder. If you’re looking for care that addresses your unique needs, these specialized programs can provide tailored support.
Additionally, many centers provide assistance to help you access treatment more easily, including transportation services or help with insurance paperwork. If your family is an important part of your support system, consider a center that involves families in the recovery process. Such centers often provide family therapy options, creating a more holistic healing environment. Remember, the more comprehensive and tailored the services, the more you’ll feel understood, supported, and capable of navigating your path to recovery.
ISSUES TREATED IN REHAB
Rehabilitation centers cater to a wide range of issues, not limited to but including the following:
- Addiction: Addiction to drugs, alcohol, or certain behaviors can be effectively treated in a rehab center. These centers usually offer detoxification services, followed by therapy sessions to address the root causes of addiction. They may also provide medication-assisted treatment and teach coping mechanisms to help prevent relapse. A residential facility provides a structured environment free of triggers, aiding in recovery.
- Behavioral Health: Issues like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), self-harm tendencies, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can be addressed in a rehab setting. Treatment often involves cognitive-behavioral therapy to change destructive thought patterns and behaviors. A residential facility allows for constant support and immediate intervention if harmful behaviors occur.
- Eating Disorders: Eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder require specialized care often available in rehab centers. Treatment typically includes nutritional counseling, therapy to address body image issues and self-esteem, and medical care when necessary. Residential treatment provides a supportive environment where eating habits can be closely monitored and healthier behaviors can be encouraged.
- PTSD/Trauma: Post-traumatic stress disorder and other trauma-related conditions can be treated with therapies like eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and cognitive processing therapy. Residential treatment offers a safe, controlled environment where patients can focus on healing away from potential triggers.
- Sleep Disorders: While typically handled by sleep specialists, some rehab centers may offer treatment for sleep disorders linked to mental health issues or substance abuse. This can include cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I). A residential setting ensures that sleep patterns can be monitored and adjusted under professional supervision.
- Depression and Anxiety: Many rehab centers provide treatment for mental health disorders like depression and anxiety. Therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and mindfulness practices are common approaches. The immersive environment of a residential facility allows for a deeper focus on these conditions and offers round-the-clock support.
- Bipolar Disorder: Managing bipolar disorder often involves a combination of medication and psychotherapy. In a residential setting, mood changes can be closely monitored, and treatment can be adjusted as necessary.
